![]() Building on the success of its training programme for central heating engineers, Salamander Engineering is now rolling out free training courses in water treatment to colleges throughout the UK. Salamander is already working closely with colleges and other organisations such as the British Gas Engineering Academy at Killingworth, Newcastle, where students on the government approved scheme, Ambition Energy, have received intensive training in many different aspects of water treatment. As well as enhancing the curriculum content, colleges benefit from a free water test of their heating system, literature on water treatment and a prize voucher for £150 worth of water treatment products. This can be presented to a particularly deserving student or used to benefit all students. "There is a real need to improve knowledge about water treatment within the industry. Taking training straight to the colleges with intensive courses is proving popular so we are now making them more widely available," explained training manager Kate Johnstone. "They are designed to provide students with a thorough and up to date understanding of the importance of correct chemical treatment and how to achieve the best results," she added. Courses cover the reasons for corrosion and scale formation and the measures that can be taken to prevent them, as well as the benefits of water testing and how to interpret the results. All students receive information packs on water treatment, as well as a selection of giveaways. Courses are designed to fit seamlessly into the college curriculum, providing up to date information on water treatment based on Salamander's experience in the field. Additional courses are also available to technical staff at manufacturers and distributors of boilers, water cylinders, pumps and other equipment that is dependent on properly treated water. To book courses, lecturers and other interested parties should contact Kate Johnstone directly on 07778 631965 or through the office on 01928 583280.
